The City of Hollywood, FL:

Williams Island Map - Click for larger viewHollywood, FL began as one square mile of farm land. The city now consists of 29 square miles. The core of the city is the Historic Hollywood Business District designed by founder, Joseph W. Young. His plan for the city began with a boulevard providing a link from the ocean to the Everglades. Young’s design included large parks, a golf course, schools and churches to meet the needs of a diverse population.

Hollywood, FL is unlike any other suburb: the close proximity to shops and 3 large circles of land planted along the main boulevard were innovative for the time. The three circles: Young, Watson, and Presidential Circle, currently the site of a 10 acre park, the city hall and a military academy. Young wanted the city to be a place of dreams, so he called it Hollywood, FL.

Determined to make Hollywood a location for everyone to come see, Mr. Young wanted his city to visited by the masses so in 1928, he created what is now known as Port Everglades, the state’s second busiest cruise port. In 1954 Hollywood, FL Boulevard was extended from State Road 7 to US 27. This started westward expansion of the city adding Hollywood Mall and creating Hollywood Hills. Hollywood, FL continued to grow with the opening of The Diplomat Hotel in 1958.

Hollywood, FL is also the location for the legendary Seminole Indian Reservation which recently became Hollywood, FL's entertainment & club hot spot with the introduction of the Seminole Hard Rock Café & Casino. The Seminoles are an important part of Florida's history; their story is told in the Ahi-Tha-Thi-Ki Museum. The tribe also provides the community with several cultural events and attractions offered exclusively to the city.

Hollywood, FL has a population of 140,000 people. Its diverse population has been said to reflect the future makeup of the country's population in 2022. Hollywood, FL is located in Southeast Broward County with 5-6 miles of beaches. The "Diamond of the Gold Coast" is Florida's tenth largest city hosting monthly entertainment and events in several of its public venues.

Hollywood, FL offers plenty of things to do for the family, whether it is walking on the boardwalk, visiting galleries at the historic Harrison Art & Design District, shopping in downtown, or partying at the Hard Rock. This is the time to take another look at Hollywood, FL.
